One of my goals as a science artist is to find novel ways to introduce science topics to a general audience, to make science research more accessible. This was my experiment to utilize captivatingly beautiful images to open the door to science.
The opportunity came when the website AnatomyToYou.com sent out a call for a guest blogger. This is an anatomy focused website started in 2016 by Dr. Lauren Sumner-Rooney and Professor John R. Hutchinson at the Royal Veterinary College in London. The video and still images I chose came from nature photographer Aaron Ansarov. His Portuguese Man-of-War series has been covered in many digital magazines such as National Geographic and My Modern Met from the perspective of nature art. My idea was to use the actual details within the photos to draw attention to the anatomy and current research surrounding this interesting creature.
